AI cutout and object removal on a phone

How Chromis removes backgrounds and objects without sending a single photo anywhere.
Chromis is a free Android photo editor built around one promise: erase the background, not your privacy. Every AI feature runs on the phone.
Background removal
One tap cuts the subject out. Chromis uses Google ML Kit's subject segmentation, with a bundled U²-Netp model as a fallback, so it works on every supported device.
Object removal
Tap an object and MobileSAM selects the whole thing. Then you pick first: Fill in rebuilds the background with a bundled 27 MB image-completion model (falling back to a content-aware fill), and Erase makes the area transparent. Tap-to-select needs 2.5 GB of RAM or more; below that, the simpler selection still works.
Nothing leaves the phone
- Edits run on the device; photos leave only when you share or export them.
- The models ship inside the app, so editing works offline. The one exception is ML Kit, which downloads its model through Play services on first run.
- No account, no sign-up.
And the rest of an editor
14 one-tap looks with a strength slider, HDR, a vignette that follows a cut-out's silhouette, drop shadows, sticker-style contours, 16 blend modes, layers, collages of 2 to 5 photos across 18 layouts, text and comic bubbles, and export to transparent PNG, JPG or WebP. It runs on Android 8.0 and newer, in six languages.
Chromis is free and supported by ads; a one-time purchase removes them. Get it on Google Play.
