roadmap

Most of the client has already shipped. Here is the picture by track, and what is still planned.

  1. Core request and response

    shipped

Method (including RFC 10008 QUERY), URL, query, headers and bodies: JSON, XML, text, GraphQL, form, multipart and file. A virtualized response viewer with folding, highlighting, find and a sticky soft-wrap toggle, plus Validate and Format and the native CORS advisory.

    • GraphQL mode
    • file bodies
    • CORS advisory
    • QUERY method
    • sticky soft-wrap
  2. Variables and environments

    shipped

A layered scope chain (global, collection .env, collection, environment, folder, request, script overlay), dynamic {{$guid}} and {{$timestamp}} values and ask-at-send {{?Name}} prompts, with a live resolved-URL preview.

  3. Authentication, nine schemes

    shipped

Basic, Bearer, API Key, OAuth 2.0 with PKCE, OAuth 1.0a, WSSE, AWS SigV4, Digest and NTLM: set on a request, or once on a folder or the collection root and inherited by everything inside, with secrets kept out of the committed YAML.

    • OAuth 2.0 + PKCE
    • AWS SigV4
    • Digest
    • NTLM
    • folder and collection auth
  4. Scripting, tests and chaining

    shipped

Pre- and post-request JavaScript with the curated helena.* API (env, interpolate, sendRequest, cookies, hash, sleep, runner control), a test() / expect() framework, no-code assertions and request chaining.

  5. Collections and headless runner

    shipped

Workspaces, collections and folders; an in-app runner and a helena run CLI for CI with the same resolution, scripts and assertions as a Send from the app. Run a whole collection or a single folder, and write JSON or JUnit reports for CI dashboards.

    • folder-scoped runs
    • JSON and JUnit reports
  6. Import, export and codegen

    shipped

Import OpenAPI (through 3.2, including query and custom-method operations), Swagger, WSDL and Postman; export to cURL, wget, fetch, Python or Go; paste a cURL command to build a request.

  7. Real-time: SSE and WebSocket

    shipped

Server-Sent Events streamed into the response view, and a two-way WebSocket session, both written on the standard library. The WebSocket frame codec is pinned to RFC 6455's own test vectors.

  8. Documentation

    shipped

These pages, reference docs, and per-module design notes that live alongside the code.

  9. Packaging and app stores

    in progress

Every release ships a native binary for each platform (with checksums, an SBOM and build provenance), Linux .deb and .rpm packages and, live now, a Microsoft Store listing for a one-click, auto-updating install on Windows. winget and Scoop manifests and an Inno Setup script are committed but not yet wired into the release pipeline, and macOS is built in CI but not yet signed. Next: the Mac App Store and a Homebrew cask, signed and notarized, and Flatpak (Flathub) plus AppImage on Linux.

    • .deb / .rpm
    • Microsoft Store
    • winget
    • Scoop
    • Mac App Store
    • Homebrew
    • Flatpak
    • AppImage
  10. UI refresh

    in progress

An ongoing visual refresh: the green accent, the Inter and JetBrains Mono type, the icon sidebar toolbar and the reworked top bar are in; refined tabs and general polish are next, so Helena looks as good as it works.

    • green accent
    • custom fonts
    • icon toolbar
    • tab polish
  11. gRPC support

    planned

Unary and streaming calls from .proto definitions. Unlike SSE and WebSocket this cannot be written on the standard library, so it waits on a deliberate dependency decision (grpc-go and protobuf).

  12. Internationalization

    planned

An i18n seam and accessible request and response text, so the interface can be translated.
